AutoPatcher!

If you know what downloads you're looking for, go to the bottom of the page.

This page will be updated as soon as I can to include the new AutoPatcher Updater that is out of beta testing as of 2008.03.31. I already have links for it at the bottom of the downloads.

AutoPatcher setup for the 2007 version.

The new version is fantastic(not that the old one wasn't, but this one goes a step beyond). The thing I like about it the best is that it allows you make all the settings you like and once you have all of your options set, you can save that configuration. From then on, you can use that same configuration file on multiple computers or just when you are updating for the next month. That means you won't have to go through and check all of those little boxes more than the first time you use this version of AutoPatcher. Of course you will still want to glance through each time you run AutoPatcher just to make sure you aren't installing something that has already been installed. You can tell because the items that have already been installed are in blue. I haven't had a chance to test whether or not the same configuration file can be loaded between the various versions of Windows yet. My guess is that it might work, especially for the Add-ons that are the same, but not for the updates. When I get the chance I'll try it and update this page.

If you already have an old version of AutoPatcher installed you will need to remove it before installing this new version from 2007. To start you always have to install the "Full" or "Core" version to go with what ever version of Windows you are running. Always start with the most recent month that has a full version. TIP - If this is being done for a client, I never "create a shortcut on the desktop" or a listing in the programs menu. Do you really think a client will be able to run AutoPatcher without having a good chance of messing up all your hard work? Once installed, just go to the Program Files and run it from there. - Once you install that full version you don't need to run AutoPatcher before you install the "Updates" for the months after that full version, and from then on, only the updates. After you've installed the updates that catch you up to the current month, install the "Add-ons", such as "DirectX" and so on(again you don't need to run AutoPatcher before installing). You only need to apply the latest version for the "DirectX" module. In the screen shots below you'll see what several of the steps look like.

01 In this picture you see what AutoPatcher looks like when you first open it after you've installed the "Full" version, the "Updates", and "Add-ons".

02 To load or save your selection choices click on the "Advanced" button at the bottom. You'll get the pop up menu to choose the appropriate selection, in this case we're loading them, so choose "Load selection from anser file".

03 Once you've done that you just browse to the answer file you want to use and "Open" it.

04 Once that's done you notice that many more of the check boxes are selected. A check in the box means that all of the sub-choices are selected and the blue box means only some are checked.

05 If you want to double check to see what you've installed as far as updates and versions, choose the "About" button. That will bring you to a scrolling credits box. From there choose the "Release Info" button.

06 Now you'll see exactly which "Updates" and "Add-ons" have been applied to AutoPatcher. During the beta of this program some the the listings were not "Official". Now I believe anything should be listed for "True". Once you've checked this out make sure to click the "back" button and not "Exit" to get back to the where you need to be to start the install.

Once you're back to the main screen all you need to do is click the "Next" button and AutoPatcher will start installing all of the updates that Microsoft can't seem to figure out how to do without restarting your computer after each critical update. (*) Since Windows XP Service Pack 2 came out there have been about 85 critical updates as of 08.25.2007. That would take a seriously long time to install and wouldn't have all of the cool updates, tweaks, and add-ons that make AutoPatcher so nice. Depending on just how many updates there are and how fast the computer is this process will take about 1.5 to 2 hours. That may seem like a long time but downloading all of those updates and then setting up all the extra features would take much more time. Once it's done, click on the "Finished" and then the "Reboot Now" buttons. The computer will reboot and you are ready to go to the "Microsoft Update" site and get the very few, sometimes none, updates that are ready. That's it, enjoy!

(*) Oops!
* If you are installing AutoPatcher and it seems to "hang" about 10 to 15min. into the install, it's probably the "Power Menu" option that is to blame. Open the Task Manager, "Ctrl+Shift+Esc", choose the Power Menu, right click and "End Process Tree" and OK on the next popup. That will close just the Power Menu installer and AutoPatcher will resume without any other problems, unless an option has already been installed. Also the Power Menu will probably, and did install and just hangs after it installs. In that case a dialog box will ask if you want to replace the previous version. If you choose just not to install it, uncheck it from the "Windows Addons" group in AutoPatcher. Hopefully this will be resolved after the August 2007 version with an "Update" for the following months.

The Downloads are listed below.

Update again 2008.03.31 - AutoPatcher Updater (apup.exe) is out of beta testing! I'll have more updates and downloads as soon as possible. Also make sure you get your system up to date using the Microsoft updates and service packs before running AutoPatcher.

Sad day
Posted by Antonis Kaladis on August 29th, 2007 |

Today we received an e-mail from Microsoft, requesting the immediate take-down of the download page, which of course means that AutoPatcher is probably history. As much as we disagree, we can do very little, and although the download page is merely a collection of mirrors, we took the download page down.

We would like to thank you for your support. For the past 4 years, it has been a blast. Unfortunately, it seems like it's the end of AutoPatcher as we know it.

Comments are welcome...

I will keep these downloads up for some time. It will depend on whether or not I get a similar letter or if my bandwidth shoots up too far. If anything changes, I'll post it here.

Big News! The new version of AutoPatcher is out! There is more to the new version and I've decided that it should have it's own page so as soon as I can do that I will. *The new version and it has a few and installes with a Full AutoPatcher to start and then you add on various AutoPatchers like a "Media Player" and "AddOns" after AutoPatcher is installed and before you run the "Full". If you have a previous version you'll have to uninstall that one before installing the new one. As before you have to start with a "Full" version fist and then you can do the updates after that point. So far I only have the settings for Windows XP and I'll get the rest as soon as possible. Once you install AutoPatcher, there are couple of small icons at the bottom and if you hover the mouse over them you'll see which one is to load the settings from. That is the second small file that I have for you. You'll click on that and the settings check boxes will all be filled in. You may want to add or change some, like adding WGA or not, but most I think these settings will give you a very good system. There are some differences from the old version like the Media Center Theme isn't there or the screen savers, at least as far as I can see. There are some add on AutoPatcher downloads that I haven't had time to test yet so when I do I'll let you know.

I've now made up my own little guide for loading up AutoPatcher. I actually forgot about the PDF of guide from AutoPatcher. You can find mine above.

All of the AutoPatcher files have been re-downloaded as of 08.16.2007. Some of the files were corrupted and some of the files that had been put up were for x64 systems (as in Windows XP 64 bit edition). If your system is x64 then you will want to to to www.AutoPatcher.com and get those files directly.

Windows 2000 - IE6SP1 is a major update, if you dont have it installed prior to using autopatcher, make sure it's selected for installation the first time you do, otherwise there can be serious consequences. Also note that some updates will only be available to install after IE6SP1 is installed, so youll need to run AP at least twice.

*The new version has a few files - 1st use the "Full" and the do the "AddOns" and "Extras" after AutoPatcher is installed and before you run the "Full".

Options and settings for OLD version AutoPatcher for XP - Win2k is almost the same.

Update! The AutoPatcher Updater is not in beta anymore. Go ahead and download the file above and the beta in the next column to get a headstart on all of the updates, but once you extract it, copy the new "apup.exe" file and "apup_bin" folder into the folder where you see "apup.exe" to replace the old ones. When you are asked if you want to copy and replace the files say yes so you are using the new version. Once you open the apup.exe you'll know you are using the new one because in the list of updates you'll see entries for Vista and XP that have April 2008 dates.

BETA for XP with a lot of the updates but probably not all. Install the old version first to get all the cool tweaks and functionality. Call me and I'll walk you through using this one. This download is 435MB!

I'll do the same thing as before and download everything and bundle it in one huge file like before so you should have a faster update since you won't be getting all the updates downloaded one by one. This large download will include the "modules" folder that contains all of the downloads. I'll have all of the ones that are in English. This will be an enormous download (over 2 GigaBytess), but once you have it, you'll be able to update Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office - all current flavors. The picture below shows all the updates the updater can do, and the ones that are checked are going into the huge update.
