AVG AntiVirus Settings!
These are a few extra settings that I always change in AVG that will have the program run over night as well as update before it runs instead of after. Also it sets the program so that even if a file is already open and then gets infected then AVG will scan it when it closes. These settings won't slow down the program or the machine any kind of noticeable amount.
Most of the settings I change are done from the "Test Center". |
From the menu listings at the top of the "Test Center" choose "Tests" and the "Selected Areas. In the Selected Areas - Change the "File extensions" to "Scan all files". |
Program Settings - Change the number of days to "999" (log files are very small), the more info a tech has if something goes wrong the better. Change the sorting to descending so it will be easier to quickly see if the last scan has found something. |

Update Scheduler - This is when the update runs. I've never figured out why the default settings is set to a time after the scheduled scan runs. I always change this to before it scans because I like to have the absolute latest definitions to use. |
Test Scheduler - This is when scans run automatically. |
Next open the Control Center and choose the Resident Shield. |
Once you open the Resident Shield you'll want to change a couple of settings. These will allow AVG to scan all files and the files you access and once you close them the're scanned so if a program is open and becomes infected, it will be scanned. |

Disclaimer - This site is meant as a help site and I won't be held responsible if you screw up your computer or someone else's computer. I won't be responsible for any of the programs listed anywhere on this page or anywhere on VicLovan.com. I didn't write any of the programs listed so if it messes up something you'll have to see the people that wrote it (and most likely you agreed to some sort of EULA not to blame them either when you installed that program). What all this will boil down to is this, BACK UP YOUR DATA, anything that is important to you, should be backed up to multiple locations, and if it's that important to you then you should take at least one copy off the premises. FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD IT'S A COMPUTER IT'S PROBABLY GOING TO SCREW UP AT SOME TIME AND YOU'LL HAVE TO START OVER ANYWAY! OK, enough of the soap box, just use some common sense and you should be fine.
