The company previously raised $5M in April of 2008, bringing their total funding to just over $10.6M. Formerly Electricross, Zero Motorcycles specializes in high performance electric street and dirt bikes--the Tesla of the motorcycle industry so to speak.
CEO Gene Banman tells us the purpose of the funding is to "expand the business." He declined to expand upon that statement. Given the emerging sector and the influx of competitors, it seems Zero is simply trying to stay ahead of the curve.

Pre-toting people around the Internets have been hoping and praying that Palm would add video recording support to the Pre ever since the device launched. When Palm's CEO Jon Rubinstein mentioned that webOS 1.3.5 would be hitting the Pre in just a few days, people started getting antsy; surely this would be the one that brought video, right?
No such luck. While it does fix a handful of issues (most importantly, they've upped the number of apps you can have installed at once), the lack of video isn't one of them.
Last week Mashable, "the social media guide", ran a story with the headline "Bing! Ballmer Says You're Fired" which contained a video of an alleged former Microsoft employee that had been fired for not being enthusiastic about Bing during a company meeting. It was claimed that Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's own CEO had laid-off the man himself. As it turns out the whole thing is a hoax and Frank Shaw, Corporate Communications at Microsoft confirmed this in a comment on the Mashable post. "Please mark this as funny but not true" writes Shaw who also notes "this is clearly a hoax and you should mark it as such in the headline".

Kind of sounds like he knows what he’s talking about, eh? Of course Sony isn’t stating anything, but the company really should. We need something to call their motion controller. Microsoft codenamed its system Project Natal, which makes it easy to write about. Without a codename for Sony’s system, we’re forced to call it something like the motion-wand-wiimote-clone-with-the-blue-ball thing. So, Sony, can we just call the thing Gem and get on with it? Twitter creator and former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has introduced a new card payment system named Square. Square was unveiled last week. The payment system uses a small scanner that plugs into the headset port on mobiles and PCs and allows retailers to read the magnetic stripe information from credit cards. Users make a purchase by swiping the credit or debit card through the reader. Card owners can then use touch screen mobiles such as the iPhone or Android devices to sign for goods. Square creator Dorsey donned the stage at Le Web 09 this morning to confirm that the small card scanner will be made available for free.

Seagate, the big huge hard drive company, has just now officially announced its first ever solid state drive. The press release title says “Seagate Introduces Its First Solid State Drive: Pulsar” and above the title it says “December 08, 2009.” To be fair, Seagate CEO Bill Watkins hasn’t been keen on solid state drives, saying a little over a year ago that his company wasn’t really considering the solid state market aside from these enterprise-level drives that have just been announced. So enterprise-class SSDs: great. But will we see consumer offerings from Seagate? As prices continue to fall and demand rises, it’d be foolish for the company to not eventually get into the consumer SSD market. Just don’t plan on anyone with a Seagate nametag showing up to the party before most of the other guests. [ Press Release | Product Page ]
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said in an earnings call that the company would have, barring possible changes in timing, 10 games available for Natal within the first six months of its release. He also said that they’d have 4-5 games for Sony’s motion controller, whatever it’s really called (can’t just be “wand”) in the same time frame. While I wouldn’t say we’re about to see a renaissance in gaming or anything like that, I think it’s good that these new peripherals are coming out deep into the consoles’ lifespans. Unlike the Wii at launch, developers have a clear idea of what the 360 and PS3 are capable of, and so their real focus will be on gameplay. I’m guessing that the first batch of games will consequently be of higher quality than early Wii titles. It’s still not simple which system to go for, however, if you’re still wavering like me. New Super Mario Bros Wii and Excitebike World Rally are enough to make me get the Wii, yet XBLA has so many indie titles — and serious, super-deep games like Demon’s Souls make the PS3 an excellent proposition as well. Well, I don’t even have a TV on which to play these games, so I should probably slow my roll. [via 1UP] |

Operation Chokehold will blow up AT&T on Friday
The call to action:
I would do it, obviously, but I’m overseas right now and if I turned on data I could buy De La Vega a new yacht with the roaming charges.
Now I’m all for a bit of fun, obviously, but isn’t it ironic that this is what passes for political action these days? Our forefathers went to union meetings, we use Pandora all day. Oh well. At least AT&T can’t hire the Pinkertons to bust our heads.
